A typical 4 in 1 transition includes a metal channel for mounting the system with a t molding which fits into the channel and is used alone if you are joining floors that are the same height.
Install t mold between carpet and vinyl flooring.
Once your flooring is down install shoe molding to cover the expansion gap between the flooring and the base trim.
First you need to clean the bottom of t molding with sandpaper and use adhesive to clip it to the floor.
Once it s done you need to slip edge of the carpet under the t molding and then lock it with the t molding.
